  9. gas from a factory owned by the US company
  10. Union Carbide; the long-term effects are yet
  11. to be discovered. The city was capital of the
  12. former princely state of Bhopal, founded
  13. 1723, which became allied to Britain in 1817.
  14. It was merged with Madhya Pradesh in 1956.
